I have often wanted to visit Budapest. I have never been overseas but I have actually had dreams about Budapest, about driving in the city and even living there, if temporarily. Those dreams coincided with my Field-of-Green Art Academy dreams that were set in the Bavarian countryside.
When I was in Vienna, 22 years ago, there was a big house near one of the train stations called the Rosa-Lilla Villa (The Pink and Purple House). It was a GLBT community center/meeting place, which at the time was just about completely unheard-of. Wonder if it's still there?
There was also a guy who called himself WALULISO - wasser, luft, licht, sonne - who stood around Stephansplatz in a toga and sandals and talked about environmentalism and politics. He had quite a following, who actually bought him a small car and paid his rent and food, all so he could keep preaching.
Enjoy Vienna - there are a lot of marvelous little things to see and do. (And hopefully Tziesnevsky's is still around - open faced sandwiches and small glasses of apple cider, beer, or slivovitz. Mmmmm...)
