What is a "playa"?

A playa, also known as alkali flat or sabkha, is a dry lakebed, generally the shore of, or remnant of, an endorheic lake. The particular playa I'm referencing is the Black Rock Desert in Nevada.

I seriously considered going this year, but I think I'd feel more comfortable if I went into it a full year in advance so I could better budget my money, time, and energy. As much as I love to do things off the cuff, it would be silly of me to do so with Burning Man and expect to have as much fun.

Can you suggest any resources for those planning in way in advance?
